On Saturday, September 15, 2018 Tremont Temple Missionary Baptist Church held a “Purse Empowerment
Summit” for girls in 5th through 12th grades. The summit was designed to empower young girls to become strong women in Christ by using the essential items in a girl’s purse (i.e., identification, keys, currency, sanitizer, gum/ mint, headphones, pen, etc.) as metaphors for life. Pastor Quentin J. Morris, Sr. stated, he “envisioned an event that the girls would be excited to attend.” Feeling the same way, the church family donated over 120 new or gently worn purses for the participants to receive at the completion of the summit.
Over 50 girls came out to hear the messages of empowerment that were presented by several dynamic speakers, which also included a keynote address delivered by Minister Angel Howard. Smiles and hugs were shared by all as participants, presenters, and numerous volunteers sang, prayed, and stood together in Christian sisterhood and solidarity. Pastor Morris and the Tremont Temple Missionary Baptist Church were honored to have the opportunity to reach so many young girls in the church and the local community.
