United Way Annual Mid- Campaign Rally

The United Way of the Coastal Empire will hold its annual Mid-Campaign Rally on Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at Wild Wing Café in City Market beginning at 4:00 pm. Dale Critz, Jr., this year’s Campaign Chair, will give fundraising updates to gauge progress in reaching this year’s $8,288,888 goal announced in September at the Kick-Off Luncheon.

Mission Suspends Donation Pick Ups

Rev. Jim Lewis (Executive Director) announces, "Due to the spike in fuel costs, the Mission is temporarily suspending donation pick ups. We encourage delivery of donations to the Mission at 2414 Bull Street." Call 232- 1979 for more information. Old Savannah City Mission is a privately funded, local 501(c)(3). In 2007 the Mission provided over 122,000 meals and more than 27,000 emergency shelter beds without a dime of government funding and never charges for its services.

Candle Lantern Tour at Fort McAllister

Come tour the fort by candlelight and see Civil War soldiers going through their nightly duties. Be sure to stay with your tour guide or you may be captured as a spy. No flashlights please. Celebratee Starland Farmers Market

On Saturday, October 25th 2008 from 9am-noon, come celebrate the last day of another great season at the Starland Farmers Market. Enjoy fresh local produce, local arts and crafts and live music by Joe Nelson and James Pittman. Joe Nelson and James Pittman will be perfoming their live old-time country music, featuring close harmony singing combined with fiddle, guitar, mandolin, banjo and uke. Joe and James draw upon our rich musical heritage with obscure old time hillbilly hits of the 1920s, fiddle tunes, bluegrass songs and country music classics of the 1950s.
