A formal ground breaking ceremony for the 137th house which the Coastal Empire Habitat for Humanity will construct in Chatham County will be held on Thursday, July 14, 2016 at 4:30 p.m. at 2133 Fox Street, Savannah, GA 31415. This event comes on the heels of the completion and sale of two Habitat houses on Bates Avenue.
The redevelopment of the Fox Street property in the Hudson Hills Neighborhood is being made possible through the generous support from two longtime corporate supporters of the Coastal Empire Habitat for Humanity. Publix Super Markets Charities will fund the construction of a new, energy-efficient house on property that was donated to Habitat by Wells Fargo. Wells Fargo also provided funding to demolish the blighted house that had stood on the property.
“Publix has been a long and faithful supporter of our affiliate’s focus on building safe, affordable and energy-efficient homes in the Coastal Empire over the past 26 years,” said Harold Tessendorf, Executive Director of the Coastal Empire Habitat for Humanity. “Their generous support for the house we are building on Fox Street will allow the Johnson family to own their home. Given the increasing price of land in Savannah, Wells Fargo’s donation of this property is a great investment for the ongoing stability of the Hudson Hills neighborhood. Together these companies are keeping the door open for affordable homeownership in the Coastal Empire.”
Habitat Savannah is the area’s premier institution responsible for constructing affordable housing in partnership with low-income, working households. A proven long-term solution to poverty, Habitat’s model emphasizes collaboration between the private and public sectors, civic organizations and neighborhood groups.
