Tuesday, October 29, 2013 was a grand day for Savannah/Chatham County Public School System and the entire community. The dedication ceremony for the Otis J. Brock, III Elementary School was held.
What has been known as Bartow Elementary now bears a new name, Otis J. Brock, III Elementary School located in West Savannah. Hundreds gathered for what was a bitter sweet occasion.
On October 2, 2013, the Board of Public Education for the city of Savannah and County of Chatham voted to approve the naming of the Otis J. Brock, III elementary School in honor of an individual who committed his life to the service of our youth and to the betterment of public education
Otis J. Brock, III was a life long resident of Savannah, Brock graduated from Johnson High School and enrolled at Hampton university and later Savannah State University. He graduated in 1994 with a B. S. in accounting and would later take graduate level courses in the university’s Master of Public Administration Program. Brock began his career in 1994 as a teller at Bank of America. He joined the budgeting department of Savannah-Chatham county Public Schools in 1998 and was named director in 2005. He was appointed chief Operating Officer for school system. in 2006. He worked tirelessly to upgrade the schools in Savannah Chatham County before his untimely death in April 2012.
