Omegas Celebrate Achievement Week

The Brothers of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated Mu Phi and Alpha Gamma Chapters recently held their 2009 Achievement Week Banquet at The Ralph Mark Gilbert Civil Rights Museum Ballroom.

Under the leadership of Achievement Week Committee Chairman, Brother Arthur O. Howard, the committee presented an outstanding program that is mandated to seek out and give due recognition to individuals who have made a noteworthy contribution toward improving the quality of life for African Americans.

Keynote speaker Brother William W. Crosby, former Superintendent of Schools from Glynn County, encouraged those in attendance to inspire the next generation of leaders in the community.

With so many people doing extraordinary things in the city of Savannah, the Achievement Week Committee recognized Tony and DaVena Jordan as the 2009 Citizens of the Year for their unwavering commitment to the community. They are the founders of AWOL, (All Walks Of Life). Their organization has provided services to over 300 youth and encountered thousands of proud parents and community members through art shows, theater productions and other events.

Other awards presented were Omega Man of the Year to Brother James Jones, Superior Service Award to Brother Anthony Fulton, and Founders award to Brother Arthur O. Howard, Jr.

The Brothers of Omega, are truly grateful and thankful for Dr. Carter G. Woodson, the inspiration behind National Achievement Week and to our Brothers for maintaining such a worthwhile tradition

In other Omega news both chapters won several awards at the 46th Annual Georgia State Workshop held in Augusta, Georgia.

Mu Phi Chapter won Region Chapter of the Year, Small Scholarship Chapter of the Year and Small Social Action Chapter of the Year. Alpha Gamma Chapter (Savannah State University) won State Undergraduate Chapter of the Year, Scholarship Chapter of the Year, Social Action Chapter of the Year, Undergraduate Chapter of the Year Region IV and NAACP Chapter of the Year.
