On Thursday, September 8, 2011 from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. stores across the world will be open after-hours for the shopping extravaganza known as “Fashion’s Night Out”.
For the first time ever, the city of Savannah will join top fashion centers including New York, Los Angeles and Chicago in this eagerly anticipated event.
Supporting Savannah’s inaugural FNO will be a new and ongoing artistic project, Savannah Windows, which integrates local art and artists with local businesses. As a currated component of the city wide FNO endeavor, Savannah Windows will display local works of art in business and residential window fronts between West York Street and Whitaker Street. Curator, artist and co-conceiver Matt Hebermehl obtained portraits of Savannah’s best known and lesser known residents from numerous local artists to serve as Savannah Windows’ initial event.
In addition to surprise works of art around every corner, Savannah Windows will also host an exhibit at The Creative Coast Gallery on Wright Square on the evening of FNO. Participating artists in this round include Jose Ray, Katherine Sandoz, Alex Soto, Benjamin Stanley, Kellie Walker, Kay Wolfersperger, Troy Wandzel, James Zdaniewski and Matt Hebermehl.
Savannah Windows is the brainchild of four local residents: Jamie Bowerman, James Zdaniewski, Matt Hebermehl, and Jake Hodesh. BlueFocus Media, a Savannah-based digital solutions provider and creator of such innovative products as the interactive touchscreen city guides found in Savannah’s visitors center and international airport, is supporting the group’s kick-off event by providing large scale printing of the event’s artwork.
