The Global Girls, National Council of Negro Women Savannah Youth Section has partnered with Signature Furniture to launch a Community Coat Drive entitled, “Warm the Body; Warm the Heart.”
The Global Girl’s primary focus is to collect coats to be given to students in grades Kindergarten through 5th grade; however coats are being collected in all sizes.
The community is asked to bring clean, gentlyused coats that are in excellent condition or new coats to Signature Furniture located at 9307 Abercorn Street, Monday through Saturday between the hours of 11am to 5:30pm. The coat collection commenced January 14, 2010 and will continue through January 30, 2010 and distributed on Monday, February 1, 2010 to students in need.
The Global Girls an extension of NCNW Savannah Section, whose mission is to embrace the legacy of the organization’s founder Mary McLeod Bethune, is comprised of young ladies between the ages of 12 and 17. New members are welcome to join the Global Girls and take part in activities of self improvement, self empowerment, and community outreach. Membership dues are $10 annually.
The Global Girls meet monthly at the Hoskins Center, located on the campus of Memorial Health University Hospital. The next meeting is scheduled for Friday, February 12, 2010, 6:30 p.m.
