National Beauty Culturist’s League 96th Convention To Be Held

The 96th Convention of the National Beauty Culturist’s League Inc. will be held Saturday, July 25-August 1, 2015 at the DeSotoHilton. Regis- tration for the conference will begin on Sunday morning at 9a.m. The Religious Retreat begins at 10a.m. The Trade Show will open to the public on Sunday at 12 noon. The show will consist of vendors with clothing, jewelry, hair products and more. The Community School Celebrity Look Alike contest will be held on the Trade Show floor from 1-4pm.

On Monday, July 27, The National Institute of Cosmetology University classes will begin and be held throughout the week. The Talent Night Star Search and Fashion Show will begin at 8:00 pm.

The President’s Banquet will be held on Wednesday evening at 7pm. The guest speaker is Rev Nelson Rivers, III. Tickets are $75.

Rev. Rivers is from the small farming community of Bennett’s Point, SC and nearby Charleston. Rev. Nelson B. Rivers, III, son of Merelyn and the late Nelson Rivers, Jr., is a preacher of the Gospel, civil rights professional, and community organizer.

He has served as the guest preacher at churches in 23 states from Florida to California and Hawaii. In September 2008, Rev. Rivers became the Pastor of Charity Missionary Baptist Church in the Liberty Hill Community of North Charleston, SC. He is committed to preaching and teaching the Word of the liberating “good news” of Jesus the Christ. For 35 years Rev. Rivers has worked at every level of the NAACP and is currently Vice President of Stakeholder Relations of the NAACP. Rev. Rivers is married to the former Carolyn Smalls of Charleston and has four children and six grandchildren. Rev. Rivers is honored to serve as a servant of the people of God!

On Thursday, July 30, Theta Nu Sigma Coronation Ball will be held from 8pm-12 midnight. NIC University graduation will take place on Friday at 7pm. The speaker for the occasion will be Thuane B. Fieldings. She is the International Program Committee Member South Atlantic Representative for Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
