NAACP ANNOUNCES: ‘VOTER REGISTRATION SUNDAY’

The Savannah Branch of the NAACP announces “Voter Registration Sunday,” Sunday, September 23, 2012, as part of the Earl T. Shinhoster Voter Empowerment Campaign 2012. This phase of the campaign will be coordinated through its coalition with The Savannah Chapter of the Links, Incorporated, local ministerial alliances, and other organizations with national affiliations such as Top Ladies of Distinction, the National Council of Negro Women, Jack and Jill of America, Inc., the Divine Nine (Greek Letter Organizations), other community organizations with national affiliations as well as local organizations.

Sunday, September 30, can also serve as ‘Voter Registration Sunday.’ Deadline for registration is October 9 in order to vote in November’s election. Please call 912-233- 4161 for additional information.

1. ARE YOU A REGISTERED VOTER IN CHATHAM COUNTY? The Registration DEADLINE is OCTOBER 9, 2012.

b. REGISTER AS A NEW VOTER before the OCTOBER 9, 2012 DEADLINE.
c. NEW REGISTRANTS** must (1) be a citizen of the United States; (2)have legal Residency in Georgia and Chatham County; (3) be 17 ½ years

7. DO YOU NEED TO CAST AN ABSENTEE BALLOT BY MAIL? · You must submit an APPLICATION for an ABSENTEE BALLOT. Applications for ABSENTEE BALLOTS to submit by mail are available beginning September 21 and end November 2, 2012. The APPLICATION must be returned (mail, fax, e-mail) in

time for your Absentee Ballot to be mailed to you so that you can return your ABSENTEE BALLOT to the Voter Registration Office postmarked, or in person, no later than the close of the polls on Election Day, November 6, 2012.

8. DID YOU VOTE IN THE 2008 GENERAL ELECTION? · You should be eligible to vote in the November 6, 2012 General Election. However, if you have not received a New Voter Registration Precinct Card, have moved, changed your name, or have become incapacitated, PLEASE contact the Chatham County Voter Registration Office, or the Voter Registration Office in your county/state of residence to check your voting status immediately.

12. IF PREVIOUSLY INCARCERATED, HAVE YOU COMPLETED ALL REQUIREMENTS FOR PAROLE AND PROBATION? · Georgia law allows a convicted felon who has completed all requirements for parole and probation to register to vote. Submit a New Voter Registration Application by the DEADLINE: October 9, 2012.

13. ARE YOU A COLLEGE STUDENT OF VOTING AGE WHO IS REGISTERED IN YOUR HOME TOWN LOCATED OUTSIDE OF CHATHAM COUNTY OR THE STATE OF GEORGIA? · If you are registered to vote in another Georgia County or another state in the United States and will not be able to go and participate in Early Voting In-Person days (if applicable), or vote on General Election Day, please contact the Student Affairs Office at your college, or the Voter Registration Office in your county/state of residence and request the application for an ABSENTEE BALLOT. OR, you may ask your parents, guardians, siblings, or close relatives (must be 18yrs or older and prove relationship to you) to formally request that AN ABSENTEE BALLOT be mailed to you from your local Voter Registration Office.

14. IF YOU ARE HOSPITALIZED AT LEAST 5 DAYS PRIOR TO THE ELECTION · You may be eligible to receive Ballot Delivery to your hospital room if you are a registered voter. Please contact the Voter Registration Office to see if this option is available to you.
