Muscular Dystrophy Association Expresses Gratitude

Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor,

On behalf of everyone at the Muscular Dystrophy Association, I want to publicly express my gratitude to the citizens of Chatham County for making the August 20thth MDA Southside Savannah Telethon Executive Lock- Up such a huge success. Once again, Southside Savannah embraced the event, helping to raise over $67,000! These much needed funds will be used to help in the purchase of leg braces and wheelchairs, support crucial research efforts, send local children to week long summer camp, and fund the local MDA clinic .

Thanks to Outback Steakhouse, Krispy Kreme, Bojangles, and Kroger for providing the jailhouse grub for our “jailbirds.”

A Special thanks to the Outback Steakhouse for hosting the event; the Thunderbolt Fire Department for assisting with transporting our jailbirds in Vaden Town vehicles. Thanks also to Best Buy and Wachovia for volunteering their time for this event.

Thank you to the following businesses that graciously donated door prizes that were given away at the event: Chu’s, The Magnolia Day Spa, 2 Smart Cookies, The Kitchen on the Square, Sand Gnats, Southbridge Golf Club and Chili’s restaurant.

Once again, my sincerest thanks to the citizens and business leaders of Southside Savannah who rallied to not only provide financial support, but also hope to those in the community whose lives are affected by neuromuscular disease. MDA thanks you!
Veronica Vereen,
Program Coordinator
