Mu Phi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Announces 2012 Mardi Gras Contestants


 
 

The Brothers of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated will present their Mardi Gras 2012 Contestants, this Friday the Savannah Civic Center Arena from 8:00 p.m.-2: a.m. For ticket and table info call Anthony Fulton at 912- 844-2578, Slim Melvin 912-665-1681, or Thad Hodges at 912-429-0703.

This year’s contestants

Mary Merritt and Idell Biles. Mary Merritt is a native of Savannah and a graduate of Alfred Ely Beach High School in 1989, Mary attended Georgia Southern University and the University of Phoenix, and earned a B.S in Technology Education, and Masters in Information Technology and Management of Information Systems. She is currently employed by Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation Savannah, GA as a Senior IT Business Analyst. Mary is Microsoft Certified Professional, holds numerous SAP certifications, and is a member of Women in

Aviation International. Mary is the mother of one daughter, Jada, who is a senior at Andrews High School.

2010, Mary established the First All Alumni Picnic ever

Beach High School in Savannah. There were over 1400 attendees present the first year. She is also an active team captain for Team Diamond Life, a team of walkers and runners who do it all in the name of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. In her spare time, she loves traveling to different parts of the world and planning events.

Idell Biles is a 1998 honor graduate of Amanda Elzy High School in Greenwood, Mississippi, where she was both a high school basketball and track standout.

She received both her Bachelor of Liberal Studies with a minor in Psychology Degree and her Masters of Arts in Teaching Special Education Degree from Armstrong Atlantic State University.

Her future educational goal is to pursue a Doctorate in Special Education. Idell is a veteran of the United States Army.

Currently Idell, is an eighth grade exceptional education teacher at Myers Middle School and the business owner of A Latte Health, an herbal business.

Proceeds from this event support the Mu Phi Chapter’s scholarship fund and other programs such as American Diabetes, and other charitable organizations.

In 1926, a group of Omega Men banded together in order to establish a graduate chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity in Savannah, Georgia.
