Savannah State University women’s basketball graduate student guard Lauren “Gaby” Moss was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Player of the Week, while senior center Tiyonda Davis was named the MEAC Defensive Player of the Week, announced by the conference Monday.
This is Moss’ first MEAC weekly award, while this is Davis’ fifth MEAC weekly award of her career.
Moss led the Lady Tigers with 19.5 points per game, 5.0 rebounds per game and 2.0 assists per game while shooting .520 (13-for-25) from the floor, including .462 (6-for-13) from the 3-point line. The Alexandria, Va., native led the team with 19 points on 6-for-12 shooting, including 4-for-6 from the 3-point line with four rebounds and two assists at Seton Hall to start the season Friday. Moss also led the team with 20 points against Columbia College on Sunday in Tiger Arena shooting 7-for-13 from the floor and added six rebounds and two assists.
Davis averaged 17.0 rebounds per game, 9.5 points per game, 3.5 blocks per game, 2.5 assists per game and 1.5 steals per game. The Athens, Ga., native started the season with a double-double against Seton Hall with 14 rebounds and tying a career-high with 16 points on 5-for-11 shooting, and followed up with a 20-rebound performance against Columbia with six blocks.
The Lady Tigers finish a two-game homestand with Alabama State University Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Tiger Arena.
