Mortgage-Free Home Gifting Ceremony For Richmond Hill Military Veteran

U.S. Army Corporal Douglas Kinard and his family are the newest resident of Richmond Hill, Georgia courtesy of a mortgage free home gifted by Building Homes for Heroes and JPMorgan Chase & Co. Ceremony to honor this veteran took place last Thursday.

Cpl. Kinard served in the Army for more than two decades before being discharged in 2010. It was in 2005, when Kinard was serving in Iraq as a gunner in a Humvee when an IED blast went off approximately 40 feet away. The blast ejected him from the vehicle and he landed on his head. During the explosion, his gun became detached and landed on his neck and head. He suffers from numerous physical and psychological injuries from his service, including chronic pain in his hip, back and his upper body, severe PTSD, a traumatic brain injury, migraine, tinnitus, seizures, partial blindness and many other injuries and ailments.

For his service to our country, Cpl. Kinard has been awarded the Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal Ribbon, Army Achievement Ribbon, Army Good Conduct Medal Ribbon, Army Reserve Achievement Ribbon (with 3 bronze leaves), National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (with 1 bronze leaf), Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal (with bronze “M”), Army Reserve Achievement Medal Ribbon (with 1 bronze “X”), Army Service Ribbon, SCNG Achievement Ribbon, SCNG Mobilization Support Award Ribbon and SCNG Palmetto Ribbon with Bronze Tree.

Building Homes for Heroes is a national nonprofit organization that builds and modifies homes to gift mortgage-free to wounded opportunities to more veterans and their families. Since 2006, Building Homes for Heroes has gifted nearly 200 mortgage-free homes. Since 2011, JPMorgan Chase has donated over 1,000 mortgage-free homes to veterans and their families in partnership with nonprofits such as Building Homes for Heroes.
