MLK, Jr. Observance Day Association, Inc. Reception Presents Parade Marshals


The MLK, Jr. Annual Grand Marshal reception was held Sunday, December 9, 2012 at the King Frazier Student Center Savannah State University. The Board of Directors of the Martin Luther King Jr. Observance Day Association, Inc. along with sponsors, supporters, and friends joined the reception to pay tribute and celebrate the 2013 Honorees great achievements.

The Marshals are Mrs. Catherine W. Jackson, a retired Chatham County School Principal and great community and church activist. Our second Marshal is Mr. Ben Tucker, a nationally known and celebrated Jazz Musician, Business man and former owner of WSOK Radio Station. Our Civil Rights Activist is

Mr. Enoch D. Mathis, a local business man for more than twenty-five years, he retired in 1996. Mr. Mathis has a long and impressive history with Savannah Branch of the NAACP. From 1959 to 1970 he chaired the Youth-Work Committee.

Our 2013 Theme is:

“Dreamers Are Believers and Believers Become Achievers”

Our Theme Winners are:
1st Place Winner – Sierra Vincent – Oglethorpe Academy – 7th Grade
2nd Place Winner – Sierra DeJesus – Oglethorpe Academy – 7th Grade
3rd Place Winner – Kristen Adams – Bible Baptist School – 7th Grade
