The 39th Annual Celebration of Dr. King’s birth will begin Sunday, the 10th of December 2017 with our 2018 Honorees Reception at the King Frazier Ballroom at 5:00 p.m. at Savannah State University. The Board of Directors of the Martin Luther King Jr. Observance Day Association, Inc. invites the community at-large to attend the celebration as we introduce the 2018 Honorees; all past honorees will also be recognized.
Our Marshals are: Dr. M. Ann Levett and Mr. Alton (Al) Wright. Our Civil Rights Activist is: Mr. Bobby Lockett. Our 2018 Theme is: “MLK 50: Together We Win with Love for Humanity.”
Dr. M. Ann Levett, is a native of Savannah and proud product of the local school system, served in the position of Chief Academic Officer of Savannah-Chatham Public Schools (SCCPSS) from 2013 to 2017 where she also worked in the capacity of Deputy Superintendent of schools before being selected as Superintendent beginning June 1, 2017. She has served as a professional educator since 1976.
Al Wright, as a Public Affairs and Community Investment consultant at Gulfstream develops and oversees education and outreach programs with area school systems and organizations.
The role allows Al to educate and empower young people in Savannah and in the communities around other Gulfstream sites.
Bobby Lockett is the first African-American to represent and to serve the people of the 3rd District as their County Commissioner in Savannah, Ga.
Recently retired from the Dan Vaden Group, Trustee Chairman Emeritus Bobby Lockett has applied both his church administrative experiences and many years of participation on the Housing Authority of Savannah Board, SSU Foundation, and United Way of the Coastal Empire Board has equipped him to serve as an advocate for the equal treatment of African Americans. He is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and SSU Community Booster Club.
