Michelle Obama Announces Commitment to Military Spouses and Veterans

First Lady Michelle Obama hosted a conference call with reporters on Wednesday, April 4th to announce a major commitment by companies to partner military spouses and veterans into portable and flexible work opportunities. Mrs. Obama was joined on the call by Joining Forces Executive Director Brad Cooper and Dawn Schaeffer, a military spouse partnered with Arise Virtual Solutions’ in the telework industry and residing near Whiteman Air Force Base, Missouri, where her husband is stationed.

“Since we started Joining Forces, one of our biggest goals has been to address employment issues for not just our veterans but also for our spouses. We’ve made strides all along the way, which is good news,” Mrs. Obama said. “We’ve seen a lot of people coming together, getting much of the private sector engaged in this effort, from our biggest corporations to many of our small businesses. And today, we are pleased to be making another step forward with a meaningful commitment that’s going to make a really huge difference for so many of our nation’s military spouses.”
