The Savannah State athletic department announced that Michael Thompson was hired as the assistant athletic director for compliance. Thompson replaces Jason Cable, who departed for Jackson State University earlier this month.
Thompson comes to Savannah State from Livingston College in Salisbury, North Carolina, where he served as the associate athletic director for compliance since November of 2011. During his time at Livingston, Thompson worked in conjunction with the athletic director in providing the procedure and execution of policies adherent to the NCAA compliance rules. He helped manage the 14-sport, NCAA Division II intercollegiate athletic program.
“We’re excited to have an individual with Mr. Thompson’s credentials join our team,” Savannah State athletic director Sterling Steward said. “We look forward to him contributing to our overall department’s success, by keeping us in compliance with the NCAA.”
Prior to Livingston, Thompson worked as the compliance director at Morgan State University from February 2008 to August of 2010. He served as a compliance intern for the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference from September 2006 to May, 2007, and as a championship intern for the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association in 2004.
He received his Bachelor of Arts in Sports Management with a concentration in Business Administration from Winston-Salem State University in 2006.
