Massie Heritage Center is proud to announce the opening of Enslavement to Emancipation: the Struggle for Education on the 23rd of February 2017. The exhibit traces Savannah’s African American education history from the nineteenth century clandestine schools until the early sixties when schools were integrated. From 5:00 to 6:30, tour guides will provide walking tours that focus on Savannah’s African American History. Advance booking is required. This will be followed by the exhibit ceremony and presentation by Chief Ulysses Bryant at 6.30 pm. Chief Bryant integrated Savannah High School in 1963 and served as Savannah
Chatham County Public School’s Chief of Police for many years. Guests may attend only the exhibit ceremony if desired, but reservations are required for both the walking tour and the exhibit ceremony.
