Martin Luther King, Jr. Observance Day Association, Inc. Announces 32nd Annual Celebration Events


The Board of Directors of the Martin Luther King Jr. Observance Day Association, Inc_ and the 20 11 Celebration Committee cordially invite you, our sponsors, supporters, and friends to attend this very special interfaith service as we pay tribute to the dreamer, great leader and awesome achiever.

”The Words Of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.” will be presented Sunday, January 9,2011 at 6:OO p.m. at the Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church, Dr. Billy Hair, Pastor. The church is located at 1008 E. Henry Street.

Our theme for the 2011 celebration is “Dream with a Vision, Live with a Purpose” by Riche’ Williams from Garrison Elementary School- 4th grade and our second place winner, is Alexes Harris from Robert W. Groves High School- 9th Grade “Dreaming is Believing, Believing is Achieving and Achieving + Success.”

Our 2011 theme winners, past theme winners and other interdenominational area students will read from Dr. King’s writings.

Mrs. Elinda Gorman, president and members of SONATA will render the music. All members of the clergy are invited to participate in the Memorial March of the Clergy.

The Musical Salute to Dr. King, sponsored by the Jewish Educational Alliance (JEA) at 5111 Abercorn Street wil1 present the Savannah Arts Academy Skylite Band and the Savannah Jazz Band on Tuesday, January 11,2011 at 7:00 p.m.

The Annual “MLK Gospel Fest will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday January 14,2011 at St. Philip AME Church, 611 MLK, Jr. Blvd., Rev. John Foster, Pastor. All of these events are free and open to the public.
