Patrick Rossiter, a former educator and school principal is announcing his bid for Savannah Alderman on Friday, February 10 in an event that will begin at 10 a.m. at Knights of Columbus Hall at 3 West Liberty Street.
Rossiter spent 39 years as a local educator, coach and school principal, 25 years of which were in the Savannah Chatham County Public Schools, including serving as founding principal of the Tybee Island Maritime Academy. Early on in his career, he established the Richmond Hill High School Football Program.
He has also engaged in post-retirement employment at the Port of Savannah and is a card-carrying member of the International Longshoremen’s Association Local # 1475 Clerks and Checkers. Rossiter supports business and tourism growth but also preserving the integrity of neighborhoods.
Rossiter is seeking the At Large, Post 2 seat and learned early on the importance of contributing to the public good in terms of community service. His father, the late Frank P. Rossiter, Sr., held the Post 2 seat when Pat was in high school.
“I want to carry on the tradition of public service established by my family and to use my extensive background in education and community service to benefit the entire city of Savannah,” says Rossiter.
Rossiter plans a positive campaign to let city residents know his plan to work to improve their lives but at the same time, is concerned about some of the negativity that has surfaced in terms of city council meetings and says he wants to put the “civil” back in city leadership. “ I hope to earn the votes of many who know me and of those who don’t yet know me and hope my long standing reputation in this community will pave the way to ultimately serve on the city council,” says Rossiter.
Rossiter would make an excellent city alderman.
