Local Top Ladies of Distinction Updates


The Savannah Chapter of Top Ladies of Distinction, Incorporated (TLOD) is pleased to congratulate Lady Elizabeth K. Jackson and lady (Dr.) lady Jacquelyn W. Stephens who were honored as “Sung and Unsung Heroes of Savannah’s Civil Rights Movement” on Thursday, November 4,2010, at the Ralph Mark Gilbert Civil Rights Museum Annex.

Lady Jackson was chosen because of her dedication to the cause through her participation in the marches; sitins, rallies, and special projects. She continues to work with the NAACP and Civil Rights Movement in an effort to keep the dream alive and to keep the Ralph Mark Gilbert Museum in operation.

In addition to being a “Sung and Unsung Hero”, Lady Jackson was chosen as the Civil Rights Honoree for 2011. On Sunday, December 12, 2010 at the King – Frazier Ballroom of Savannah State University, a reception was held in her honor along with the other honorees. As an honoree she will participate the 2011 Martin Luther King Parade.

In 1965, Lady (Dr.) Jacquelyn W. Stephens was assigned to Massey Elementary School in an attempt to integrate Savannah Chatham County Public School System. Lady (Dr.) Stephens was a Reading Specialist and touched the lives of many children in the school district and she remained there until 1968.

Because, of her dedication to the education of Savannah Chatham County youth, Lady (Dr.) Stephens endured many sleepless nights, disrespect from administration, staff members, parents and sometimes students. Despite all she experienced, she was determined to fulfill her dream to make a difference in children’s lives and the community. Lady (Dr.) Jacquelyn W. Stephens is truly a “Sung and Unsung Hero”.

Lady Wilmotine Ellis and the Beautification Committee solicited donations of personal items for the Christmas stocking. On behalf of the Savannah Chapter of Top ladies of Distinction, Incorporation. Items were presented to the women at the Ben and Betty Burn Home.

Lady Tara Scott Brown and Lady Carolyn Stanley are the chairpersons for Status of Women. This committee goal was to collected housekeeping supplies for The Interfaith Hospitality Network which were presented decorative baskets.

Lady Versie Dupont who serves as chairperson for Community Partnerships committee collected gifts and toys to support “Miracle on May Street”. The Savannah Chapter TLOD donated over $240.00 worth of toys for this project.
