DeOndre Frazier accepts BP-GOAL award

DeOndre Frazier, son of Ms. Cassandra Williams of Savannah, has been awarded a BP-GOAL Scholarship to attend Bethesda Academy for the 2012-2013 school year.

The Georgia GOAL Scholarship Program’s BPGOAL Scholars Fund awarded 15 scholarships, enabling qualifying students to attend Georgia private schools beginning in 2012- 2013. BP and its Castrol subsidiary, longtime education supporters, have embarked on the new scholarship program in connection with Georgia GOAL to provide Georgia parents with more options for the education of their children.

Bethesda Academy Principal Kelly Burke said, “DeOndre is a highly inquisitive and motivated student. He is a wonderful addition to Bethesda Academy, where he will have unique opportunities to integrate his love for science with cutting edge instructional technology and abundant natural resources.”

DeOndre’s mother, Cassandra, added that she is proud of DeOndre’s drive and ambition and is fully supportive of his goals. She said that the BP-GOAL Scholarship to attend Bethesda Academy is an integral step in realizing those goals.

Each award amount is based on the tuition rate at the student’s chosen private school and his/her family’s demonstrated need. BPGOAL scholars must reapply each year for the continuation of these awards, which if awarded over the next four years could result in a cumulative total of $372,000 being awarded to all scholarship recipients. To be eligible to apply, applicants had to be enrolled in a Georgia public school, qualify for free and reduced-price lunch through the National School Lunch Program and have been accepted and sponsored by a qualified Georgia private school.

Lisa Kelly, Georgia GOAL Scholarship Program president said, “It is important for students to have the option of a private school that fits their needs if they can’t achieve their full potential in their local public school. The Georgia legislature created this opportunity to improve educational outcomes and to allow families to put their children on paths to success.”
