On Thursday, June 2, 2011, Johnson High School basketball prep star, Steve White, signed a letter of intent to play Division II basketball at Ohio Valley University.

With his father, coaches, teammates, and many students looking on, Steve signed the necessary paperwork to follow his dream of playing college basketball.

“It feels good,” he said. “I’m ready to go to college.”

Steve said he developed good communication with the coaching staff at Ohio Valley and this factor played heavily in his decision to sign with the University.

“I talked to the coaches a lot, and now it’s over, and I am happy,” he declared.

Steve was a shooting guard for Johnson this year and will continue to be a shooting guard for Ohio Valley.

His father, also named Steve White, expressed pride and joy for his son’s accomplishments.

“It’s great and fantastic,” said the elder White, who also played high school basketball. “Steve has achieved his goal.” He said Steve has been playing basketball since he was seven years old.

Johnson High head basketball coach Marty Holder also expressed his appreciation and gratitude for his shooting guard’s newly earned basketball scholarship.

“Honestly, it’s amazing,” he said. “The kids do all the work, and I’m just happy to be a part of it.”

Steve’s teammates were also happy for him, and came to show their support at his signing ceremony.

“He always worked hard on every play,” said teammate Brad Eaton. “He’s going to do bigger and better things in college.”
