Learning from Charlie

“There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love,” (1 John 4:18).

Jesus has given us the Holy Spirit to be our teacher and guide in life. If we will include Him in our lives and be attentive to His voice He will show us what to do and how to do it. Many times, we miss out on God’s supernatural provision because we are looking for Him in the spectacular.

Then He said, “Go out, and stand on the mountain before the Lord.” And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice.

So, it was, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle and went out and stood in the entrance of the cave. Suddenly a voice came to him, and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah,” (1 Kings 19: 11-13).

In 1 Kings 19 we see God speaking to the prophet Elijah. God’s voice was not in the strong wind, His voice was not in the earthquake, and could not be found in the fire. He spoke to Elijah in a still small voice. The Holy Spirit lives on the inside of every believer and speaks to us from within us. His voice is a knowing in our innermost being, our spirit man.

The other day I went for an afternoon jog with my dog Charlie. The trail we jog on runs right beside a busy highway. As we were jogging and cars were moving fast alongside of us, I noticed Charlie didn’t appear to be startled at all by the traffic. God then asked me a question. “Do you know why Charlie is not afraid?” I responded, “because he is my dog,” and laughed. God said, “He is not afraid because he has been given nothing but unconditional love his whole life. He has never been abused, rejected, or abandoned. My love you and Elizabeth have given him has driven out any potential fear from his life. It works this way with my children as well. My love cast out all fear.”

The spirit of fear is a robber. Any place fear is present God’s love is absent. Nothing can separate us from God’s love but we choose whether we want it or not. Both love and fear is a choice. When we believe the love, God has for us, it enables us to trust Him and place our lives into His care. A carefree life is a fearless life. A carefree life is a stress-free life. When we choose to embrace the cares of life we open wide the door of our heart to fear and its destruction.

Today, choose to live a fearless life just as Charlie does. God loves you with an unconditional love. His perfect love for you will cast out all fear from your life. If you have been hurt in life God’s love is powerful enough to heal your deepest pain and deliver you from the spirit of fear. Receive God’s love today by placing your faith in Jesus. Surrender everything to Jesus and He will save you today!

Blessings,

Brandon and Elizabeth
