In their final home game of the regular season, the Savannah State Lady Tigers dropped a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) match to Clark Atlanta on Tuesday, 1-3.
Prior to the match, the Lady Tigers honored their lone senior, Jamese Scott. SSU will return seven of their starters from this season for the 2020 schedule. Savannah State finishes the regular season on Friday, Nov. 15 in Albany against Albany State.
The Lady Tigers six conference wins this season qualifies them for an SIAC Championship berth. They are currently fourth in the SIAC East Division. The Championship is set for Nov. 18-20 in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
In a hard-fought opening set, De’Antoine Rodriguez tied up the game at 21 with back-to-back service aces. The Lady Panthers responded with a service ace of their own and a kill to regain the lead. Valeria Aldarondo and Jeilynn Brown each landed a kill in response. An SSU error lifted the visitors to a 24-23 lead and a kill from Taylor Prude gave them the 25-23 set win.
The second set ran neck and neck like the first. Out of a Clark Atlanta timeout, Imani Williamson landed a kill to knot the set up at 22. Costly errors from both teams again tied the game at 23. SSU edged out to a onepoint lead behind a Lady Panther error and sealed up the win on a service ace from Jedaiah Daniels.
The visitors opened the third set with a 10-6 run and held the lead for the rest of the set. They finished with a 6-3 run for the 25-14 win. Late in the fourth set, the Lady Panthers went on a 4-1 run to seal up a 25-19 win.
Savannah State was led by Williamson who recorded 12 kills on 23 attacks. Aldarondo led in digs with 9 and assists with 30. Scott finished her last home game as a Lady Tigers with 9 kills and 5 blocks. She leads the Lady Tigers and is ranked third in the conference in blocks on the season with 64.
Clark Atlanta was led by Terry Lauryn who recorded 13 kills on the night. Kia Thomas had 11, and Prude put up 10 kills and 10 digs.
