Lady Annette S. Mitchell has been selected as the “2009 Top Lady of the Year” by the the Savannah Chapter of Top Ladies of Distinction, Incorporated (TLOD). The distinct honor has been bestowed upon this dedicated and loyal member for the second time. She was signaled for this award by the membership in 2006.

Lady Mitchell was inducted into the Savannah Chapter of TLOD in September, 1996 and has served faithfully in many capacities locally, for Area IV of this organization, and at the national level. Locally, she has served as Chairperson of the Community Beautification Thrust, Corresponding Secretary, and 2nd Vice President. Her leadership roles have extended to the area level, namely, Chairperson of the 2006 Area IV Leadership Conference Registration Committee, Chairperson for Area IV Community Partnership Thrust, and Chairperson of Area IV Political Action Committee. Nationally, Lady Mitchell served as the General Chairperson of the Registration Committee during the 2006 SynLod, the National Convention held here in Savannah, Georgia.

Presently, Lady Mitchell is serving her second term as the 1st Vice President of the Savannah Chapter of TLOD, Assistant Top Teens Advisor, and was recently elected as Recording Secretary for Area IV of the organization.

Lady Mitchell is married to Mr. Abraham Mitchell, Sr. and is the proud mother of two adult children, Alana and Abraham, Jr. Her love of family is extended to her son-inlaw, Chad Dawson, one adopted son, Robert Morgan, and to her four grandchildren.

Lady Mitchell, or “Lady Annette” as she is lovingly called, is a retired educator of the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System after 34 years of service. Additionally, she is a lifelong member of the Tremont Temple Missionary Baptist Church where she works untiringly with the Mission and Floral Ministries and the History Committee. Her call to service is exemplified in her involvement as a member of Gamma Sigma Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, the Electra Chapter of the Order of Eastern Stars, National Council of Negro Women, and the American Business Women Association. Professionally, she holds membership in the Chatham Retired Educators Association and the Georgia Retired Educators Association. Most recently, she assumed the responsibility of serving as a volunteer at Hospice Savannah.

Lady Mitchell will compete for the title of Area IV Top Lady of the Year in Greensboro, South Carolina in March.
