Junior Miss Pageant to be held April 3

Sondra Barnes, Chairperson for the Greater Chatham’s Junior Miss program is proud to announce its Class of 2011 Junior Miss to be presented on Saturday, April 3, 2010 at Sol C. Johnson High School.

Greater Chatham’s Junior Miss (GCJM) program is affiliated with and franchised by Georgia’s Junior Miss (GJM) and America’s Junior Miss (AJM). GCJM is a scholarship program for high school junior young women (public and private schools) from all racial, ethnic, and religious backgrounds from the following counties: Bryan, Chatham, Effingham and Liberty.

AJM is not a beauty pageant, but is a scholarship program that rewards overall excellence. Last year, AJM awarded more than $33 millions in scholarship opportunities to young women on the local, state and national levels.

This is the first Junior Miss program for the southeastern part of Georgia. Greater Chatham’s Junior Miss Scholarship Program is proud to call Savannah our home. This year 12 Junior Miss contestants from the various high schools will converge in our “Host City” to compete for cash scholarship and the chance to be the first “Greater Chatham’s Junior Miss” and “Savannah Junior Miss”.

Each of the twelve (12) young women have selected a “Little Sister” to follow in her footsteps. The Class of 2011 Junior Miss are all honor roll/high honor roll students and high achievers with church and community involvements. Some of their honors, awards and achievements are: National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, Governor’s Honor Program, IB Council, Martin Luther King, Jr. Essay Winner, Softball Award, Track Award, Band Awards, Soccer Award, National Jefferson Award, Brandon Brown Award, The Stephen Decatur Award, Certificate of Swimming with the Manatees, Georgia Certificate of Merit, Certificate of Academic Excellence, Certified Yoga Teacher, DECA, FBLA, SADD, Mock Trial, Japanese Club, Spanish Club, French Club, Science Club, Chatham County Youth Commission, Beta Club, Literary Club, Drama Club, Student Ambassador, Cheerleader, All Walks of Life (A.W.O.L.), Jazz Band, Concert Band, School Chorus, Marching Band, Soccer Team, Track Team, Swim Team, Dance Productions & Performances. The 2010 – 2011 National Sponsors for AJM are the City of Mobile and Mobile County. Category sponsors are Alabama Power, Encore Rehabilitation, Mobile Gas, and Regions Bank.

The Greater Chatham’s Junior Miss Scholarship Program will be held on Saturday, April 3, 2010 at Sol C. Johnson High School, 3012 Sunset Boulevard, 7:00 PM. Admission $10.00.
