The Daughters of Mary Magdalene is pleased to announce the 2014 Juneteenth Festival to be held on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at the Wells Park (W. 38th St. Park) beginning at 10 a.m. The speaker for this occasion will be Savannah native, Attorney Albert Mitchell.
The Daughters of Mary Magdalene has premiered as host of superb speakers at the Juneteenth Festival. In recent years, we have showcased distinctive and intellectual speakers such as Professor Debra Founteneau, Thurbert Baker, Jamie Mohommad, State Rep. Tyrone Brooks, State Sen. Lester Jackson, Alderman Clifton Jones, County Commissioner James Holmes and former NAACP President, Ben Jealous.
Each year The Daughters seek excellent speakers who have the ability to stimulate and provoke positive change through their message. The life of Atty. Albert Mitchell is inspiring and can be used as a guide to many African American men who have lost their desire to succeed. Mitchell grew up in Fellwood Homes. His mother, Brunette Mitchell-Dixon was a single parent raising seven children including 2 sets of twins. Mrs. Mitchell-Dixon worked hard so she would be able to provide the necessary tools for her children to survive.
Today, Atty. Mitchell has a private law firm in Atlanta. He is a successful trial attorney and sentimental mediator. One of his passions in his field is to stop mass incarceration of African American young men. The impeccable and professionalism of Atty. Mitchell impressed the Daughters of Mary Magdalene immensely. They are honored to have one of Savannah’s most prominent and distinguished natives to return home and be the keynote speaker for the Juneteenth celebration, including his mother and stepfather, Mr. Alston and Mrs. Brunette Dixon. The public is invited.
