State Sen. Lester Jackson (D-Savannah) will be the keynote speaker for the Mass Meeting/General Membership Meeting of the Savannah Branch, NAACP on Sunday, July 24, at 4 p.m. at First Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church, 310 Alice St.
Jackson will update members on Georgia’s reapportionment and redistricting process, which is currently under way.
The General Assembly will meet in special session beginning Aug. 15 to draw new boundary lines for Georgia’s US. House of Representatives, State senate and State House districts to take effect in the 2012 elections.
Jackson was elected to the Georgia Senate in 2008 following 10 years of service in the state House of Representatives. He has been selected twice by the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus as its legislator of the Year because of his ongoing efforts to improve access to health care, support our public schools and make our neighborhoods safer.
