Into the Fold: An Exploration Southern Spirituality

The City of Savannah Cultural Arts Gallery presents the photographic works of Lauren Flotte and Jahmad Balugo, “Into the Fold: An Exploration of Southern Spirituality”. This two -person exhibit features photographs that showcase religion influence and spirituality. This exhibit opens to the public May 3 and runs through May 31. The opening reception will be held Friday, May 10 from 5pm – 7pm at the DCA Cultural Arts Gallery located at 9 West Henry Street.Flotte’s works, taken at St. Phillips Monumental AME Church, deconstruct religious rituals and in turn attempt to reconstruct a narrative about spirituality that connects the traditional religious experience with secular metaphysical consciousness. Upon review of the congregation photographs, Flotte discovered that her images captured a pure spiritual feeling and separated that universal connection sensed both on the individual and group level from the ideological practices that often divide the religious and non-religious groups. The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public. Cultural Arts Gallery is located at 9 W. Henry St. Gallery hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
