The inaugural basketball camp at the West Broad Street YMCA with former Harlem Globetrotters Larry “Gator” Rivers, Tyrone “Hollywood” Brown, and Wayne “AB” Clark was a huge success!
Over the three days nearly 55 kids got to learn the basic skills of the game while learning about how to work with others, play well, and love themselves.
“I have been doing this for years and it only gets better every time,” offers Gator. “Every generation of kids can learn through basketball.”
The camp ran from Monday, December 28 through Wednesday December 30. Kids came from all over Savannah and ranged in age from 5 to 15.
“This is the kind of thing we want happening here,” says Tony Welch, volunteer at the Y. “We are recruiting adults from our community to help with these kids.”
The West Broad Street YMCA is starting a series of basketball leagues in January for kids 3 and up, as well as for adults.
