On Saturday February 6, 2010, at 9:30 AM, Dave Kelly, coordinator of the Harris Neck Community Land Trust, will present the organizationís economic and community development plans at The Hungry Club Forum of Savannah, Inc. (HCFS).
The presentation will be the main feature of The HCFS’s monthly community breakfast forum and roundtable, to be held in the Multipurpose Annex of the West Broad Street YMCA, located at 1110 May Street, near W. Gwinnett Street.
Many of Savannah’s African Americans have roots in the Harris Neck community located in the McIntosh County, GA area of Liberty County.
The Harris Neck Justice Movement is at the center of the effort to reclaim, from the federal government, the 2,824 acres of land for its rightful owners.
Dave Kelly is a writer and community organizer with a diverse background, starting in publishing, then shifting to corporate communications and public relations. After leaving the corporate world in New York, Kelly moved to New England where he produced and hosted an environmental and social issues radio program called “Our Sustainable Future.”
He transitioned into the social justice arena, and for most of last 15 years, has worked in the non-profit sector, concentrating on issues of education and training, jobs creation, homelessness, and eco and heritage tourism.
