The 82nd coronation of Miss Savannah State University (SSU) will be part of SSU’s annual homecoming festivities. The ceremony will be held Thursday, Oct. 24, 7 p.m., Tiger Arena and is free and open to the public.
Miss Savannah State University is Aaliyah Buckholts, a senior mathematics major with a track in secondary education. A native of Riverdale, Ga., she is SSU’s White House HBCU scholar, a Board of Regents scholar, the vice president of SSU’s chapter of Ga. Association of Educators, member of the National Council of Negro Women, a tutor for the Upward Bound program and a student assistant in the registrar’s office. Buckholts began college as a dual enrolled student and has maintained a 4.0 GPA during her time at SSU. She will be joined by her court Miss Senior Kerre’ Tinsley (business marketing, Richmond, Va.), Miss Junior Kamari Moore (mass communications, Jacksonville, Fla.), Miss Sophomore Taneya Heath (biology, Augusta, Ga.) and Miss Freshman Asia Cannon (biology, Decatur, Ga.).
Mister SSU is Antwan Yarbrough, a senior accounting major from Atlanta, Ga. Yarbrough is a member of Freshman Academy 2020 and the Collegiate 100 Black Men of Savannah State University. He has maintained good academic standing as a three-time honor roll student, recipient of the Savannah State University scholarship, Mount Vernon Baptist Church Academic Scholarship and the National Accountants Academic Scholarship. His court is Mister Senior Matthew Green (accounting, Athens, Ga.), Mister Junior Tyler Hodges (behavior analysis, Richland, Ga.), Mister Sophomore Foday Tarawally (civil engineering, Clarkston, Ga.) and Mister Freshman Jeffrey Dinkins (business marketing, Jonesboro, Ga.).
Prior to the coronation, the SSU National Alumni Association (SSUNAA) will hold a crowning ceremony of the national alumni queen and attendants, 5 p.m., Asa H. Gordon Library.
