The Historic Savannah Foundation will present the Black History Month Lecture, presented by Stephanie Deutsch.
Stephanie Deutsch, a nationally recognized author and columnist, will be discussing the historic Rosenwald Schools. The name of the Rosenwald Schools is applied to more than 5,000 schools, shops and teachers’ homes built for the education of African-Americans in the early 20th century. Deutsch became interested in the Rosenwald Schools from her husband, David Deutsch, great-grandson of Julius Rosenwald. Deutsch is the author of You Need a Schoolhouse: Booker T. Washington, Julius Rosenwald and the Building of Schools for the Segregated South, published in 2011 by Northwestern University Press. Reception to follow.
