Freedom Week in Savannah will be held on October 30 – November 4, 2010. Fifty years after SNCC was formed in North Carolina , several former members are organizing to observe this historic anniversary here in Savannah. Motivated by the success in North Carolina, Savannah likewise employed youth to accelerate its Civil Rights Movement. Led by an organized group of community leaders with hundreds of youth on the front lines, Savannah was integrated before the Civil Rights Act of 1965 ahead of most of the south.
The Ralph Mark Gilbert Civil Rights Museum and SNCC alumni join forces to commemorate these important events in Savannah.
