The two major health issues that our children face today are Obesity and Type 2 Diabetes. Children are easily influenced by marketing and advertising, and so will want to choose items they’ve seen on TV to eat. Many times parents, who don’t want yet another fight, give in.
But by not taking control of what children eat and drink, allowing them to make their own uninformed choices, results in obesity and poor health. Today, we have a population poisoned by sugar, artificial sweeteners and the MSG, present in the products they consume, and processed foods.
These health issues have grown to major proportions over the last twenty years and are now transforming the landscape of our communities and schools.
Cafeterias and vending areas are being re-evaluated for the foods and beverages that are being served in hopes that healthier options can be provided to our children. However, education and understanding must start at home. As schools attempt to make available better selections, they are getting big resistance from the students. Parents need to be educated on nutrition for themselves and for the health of the children. Our body needs natural sugars, glyconutrients, to help support the body’s growth and immune systems.
The body easily produces its own glucose and lactose, as we eat natural sugars in fruits and vegetables as part of a healthy diet. But, when we add artificial sweeteners and chemicalized sugars to our diet, we develop a craving for more and more sweet tasting foods and drinks to satisfy the sweet tooth, while shutting down the body’s ability to recognize fullness, causing one to continue eating.
The obesity problem which is affecting so many of our children today is caused by eating and drinking toxic chemicals, which cause cravings for more and more sweets.
High Fructose Corn Syurp, NutraSweet and Equal, Sweet-N-Low, and Splenda all are toxic chemicals and harmful to the body. Therefore, if parents want to help their children grow strong and healthy, it is important that they be aware of what they are eating and drinking not only at home, but at school and after school. Sugar and artificial sweeteners put everyone’s health at risk. Obesity and Type 2 Diabetes are just two problems affecting us.
Hopefully, the changes one might find in schools’ cafeterias and vending areas are only the beginning of healthier choices, and thus healthier lives for all.
Remember, Health is a choice, Your Choice.
