It has been 40 years since President Nixon launched an intensive campaign to find a cure for cancer. The National Cancer Act was signed into law in December, 1971, and broadened the scope and responsibilities of the National Cancer Institute.
The National Cancer Act increased federal funding “in order to more effectively carry out the war on cancer”, and has consumed more than 100 billion dollars in federal research monies, in allocations from all United States agencies from 1970 to the present. These funds have been matched by research investments from pharmaceutical companies, non-governmental organizations, states, co-operations, and individuals. However, the total spending to find a cure for cancer truly cannot be calculated. Estimated to be into the multi trillions of dollars.
The cancer machine, driven by dollars, works tirelessly to raise awareness of cancer, raising money for cancer screenings, money for treatments and more and more for research studies and more sophisticated equipment.
Today, surviving the more common cancers is measured in gains of months, not years, of a persons life. After rounds and rounds of aggressive radiation and chemotherapy treatments, many are the patients whose life expectancy would be 2-3 years with no treatment at all, is gone in a matter of 3-4 months.
Treatments that do show an increase in cure rates, extend the life of a patient, in only a small handful of less common cancers—such as some childhood cancers, leukemias, Hodgkin’s, and malignancies of the thyroid and testes.
Thirty years ago, half of cancer patients survived five years or more after diagnosis. Today, the number is only up to about 63%, after trillions of dollars in research money spent. Screening for cancer is diagnosis after the fact, when cancer is detectable by PET scan, or x-Ray, or blood test, it may already have spread. Undetected. But, spread none the less.
So, what’s the real answer to the War on Cancer? Prevention. However, there are no big research grants offered for prevention.
Preventing cancer is easy! Easy as a change of lifestyle. Here is what you need to know about how to prevent cancer.
Build a strong immune system. Build it with the foods the build health, and a strong body. Exercise everyday. Exercise helps to eliminate toxins, oxygenates and strengthens the body. Get weight into normal range. An enzyme – MAGL – in fat cells acts as an accelerant to cancer cells, making the cancer more aggressive.
Eat an adequate amount of a variety of fresh, local, organic fruits, vegetables, nuts, and wild caught fish.
Eating beans, whole grains, fruits and veggies are known to fight cancer due to antioxidants which neutralize free radicals, the product of oxidation. Figs, grapefruits, oranges, lemons, papaya and raspberries.
Specific fruits and vegetables have anti-cancer properties. Red grapes have flavonoids which prevent cancer formation. It also has resveratrol and ellagic acid, which haults the enzymes responsible for cancer cell development.
Vegetables identified as cancer fighters include tomatoes, sweet potatoes, mushrooms, garlic, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower and avocados. Avocados are rich in glutathione, an antioxidant that blocks the absorption of some fats, and blocking the accumulation of free radicals in the body.
Flax, oatmeal, barley, popcorn, brown rice, whole wheat products are also associated with cancer prevention. Add lentils, black beans, split peas, lima beans, kidney beans, chick peas and black-eyed peas, as staples.
Take a really good supplement daily, and then double up if you ‘feel something coming on’. Additionally, lots of research shows that green tea, olive oil, coconut oil, omega-3 fish oils, turmeric, selenium, seaweed, aged garlic supplements and others have great potential in preventing cancer.
Eliminate commercially processed, overcooked, calorie dense, low fiber, high sugar, white flour foods from your daily diet, altogether. Meats, only clean, lean meats in small amounts, no more than 8 times per month.
NOW, with this eating plan you can substantially improve your health, sense of wellbeing, lifestyle, and even your cash flow. All while reducing your risk of getting a diagnosis of cancer.
