When someone comes to me about a health problem, one of the first questions I’ll ask is ‘are you taking vitamins?’ Too many times the answer is no. So, the question becomes why not? It seems that we don’t know a lot about the value of vitamins and how necessary vitamins are to good health and vitality.
A gentleman I was in line with yesterday began to tell me how badly he felt and that standing in line was becoming more difficult for him each second. Later I had the opportunity to ask if he’s taking any vitamins, he said “I take so many pills I just can’t take anything else.” I ask further, what are you taking? He offered up all the medicines he’s taking for many different chronic, lifestyle diseases, all preventable.
Wow, if he only knew, taking the proper vitamins, along with a change of diet, would have prevented many (if not all) of the health problems for which he’s now taking ‘so many pills’!
When I start to work with a new client, the first thing I advise is a good vitamin formulation, and offer the protocol for taking it. This is so important that I give this information even to persons who are not my clients. So, I’ll say it here; If you are not taking vitamins, you are not taking even the first step to being healthy.
This is not the rare conversation. So, lets look at what vitamins are, then their benefit and usefulness in the body. The reason we ( have the desire to ) eat is so that we can nourish the body, feed it the nutrients that provide the spark of life.
Nutrients actually create each cell, each organ and each system of the body. Our cells are made of molecules of water, carbohydrates, amino acids, fatty acids, nucleic acids, and minerals – hydrogen, nitrogen, phosphorus, calcium, iron, zinc, magnesium, and hormones, vitamins and more.
We eat lots of food, but how healthy are we? In general, it seems we are not too particular about what we eat, as long as it tastes good, it’s cheap, we can eat all we want, and don’t have to cook it ourselves.
We don’t seem too concerned with where it comes from or what’s in it. And, if we eat something that disagrees with us, we take some medicine for it, and continue to eat it.
On some level, you’ve got to know that’s not good. Well, when we are not concerned about what we eat, and what’s in it, or where it came from, we are probably very sick, have lots of medicines and don’t feel all that good. Have lots of doctors’ appointments, a poor quality of life, and not much hope for anything better.
A diet naturally high in vitamins and minerals is the best defense against every disease. And even every injury, because fresh fruits and veggies and whole grains are the primary sources of vitamins, carotenoids, and phytochemicals, as well as fiber and all the important minerals our bodies need to keep that spark of life alive.
Recently, the Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) for vitamins I’ve seen is gradually being replaced by a new standard called the Dietary Reference Intake (DRI). This reflects a new understanding, and shift in nutritional emphasis – from preventing deficiencies to lowering risks of chronic diseases. This means that scientists are rec- ognizing that the RDA was not enough to stem the growing tide of epidemic chronic disease among the population. Because of how food is grown in this country, every person should be taking a good Multivitamin / multi mineral supplement. Simply because the soil that foods are grown in is deficient in the nutrients that our bodies need. If it’s not in the soil, it’s not in the food. More and more there is evidence, also suggesting that vitamins and micronutrients, especially from foods, play important roles in the prevention and treatment of many cancers, and indeed all disease processes.
So, what vitamins should we be taking? For many reasons, I believe that a liquid formulation, made from a plant based source, and kept refrigerated, is the best way to go. Lots of vitamins and minerals are synthesized in the laboratory. This is not what you want. Think about it, from a plant based source, it’s easily digestible and readily absorbed into your body’s thirsty, yearning cells, so that the work they do can be done with the most excellent tools. Your life and health are depending on the choices you make. Make the choice for good vitamins and start today! Remember, Health is a Choice!
