Native Savannahian and Chatham County resident John Hall has entered the race to be the next councilperson for the 3rd District of the City of Savannah, Georgia. The formal announcement was made on March 1, 2011 at his home. Mr. Hall is married to Connie Houston-Hall and is the father of five. He is currently employed by the Chatham County Board of Education as a paraeducator at DeRenne Middle School.
Mr. Hall has an extensive history in the Thunderbolt and East Savannah communities that spans the breadth of his sixty years. He attended Johnson High School, graduating with the Class of ’69. Mr. Hall has spent his adult life as a community resident, giving both public and community service.
For eight years, Me Hall served as councilman for the Town of Thunderbolt. During his last four years he served in the capacity of Mayor pro tem. He served as Public Works Commissioner for eight years overseeing sanitation, roadways and water service for the town.
In addition, he served as Assistant Public Safety Commissioner overseeing both the police and fire department.
During his tenure, a new fire station, senior citizen complex, municipal facility and public works facility were built. Mr. Hall completed over 160 hours of municipal government education through the Carl Vinson Institute of Government at the University of Georgia. He also served on the steering committee of the National Council of Cities.
Mr. Hall continues to serve the community with commitment, integrity and passion. He is a board member of the Ralph Mark Gilbert Civil Rights Museum and an active mentor to several youth.
