Georgia Southern To Host Nikki Giovanni For Annual MLK Celebration


Georgia Southern University will welcome Nikki Giovanni, world-renowned poet, writer, commentator, activist and educator, to campus on Wednesday, January 18, 2017, at 7:00 pm in the Georgia Southern’s Performing Arts Center (PAC), 847 Plant Drive, Statesboro .

As the University’s 2017 MLK Celebration speaker, Giovanni will present her speech, “The Right to Dream,” for the annual event. Each year, the MLK Celebration provides an opportunity for the campus and local community to gather and celebrate the life and legacy of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Born Yolande Cornelia “Nikki” Giovanni, Jr. is one of the world’s most well-known African-American poets,. Her work includes poetry anthologies, poetry recordings, and nonfiction essays, and covers topics ranging from race and social issues to children’s literature.

The event is free and open to the public.
