On February 7, 2020, Gamma Sigma Omega Chapter (GSO) members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. will switch pink shirts for red and will join in the fight against heart disease for the improvement in the health of all women. This day has been designated nationally by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. as “Pink Goes Red for Heart Health,” a day to raise awareness of this deadly disease in women and promote healthy habits and changes that will increase the life expectancy of women around the world. On the evening of Feb. 7, 2020, GSO will host a seminar and expo about healthy heart habits and truths about high blood pressure for the public. The theme of the event is “Let’s Circulate.” The goal of this theme is to bring about greater awareness of physical fitness being a tool for developing healthy circulatory and respiratory systems. Activities for this event include line dancing, yoga, stretching, blood pressure screening and healthy foods. Early diagnosis and treatment can result in a better quality of life and lower mortality from heart disease.
