Gamma Sigma Omega chapter, under the leadership of Denise M. Cooper, Esq., celebrates Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated Founders’ Day on Sunday, February 24, 2019 at The Beach Institute African-American Cultural Center, 502 E. Harris Street at 4:00 p.m. The guest speaker is The Honorable JaDawnya C. Baker, Municipal Courts of Atlanta, Georgia. Open to the public, the theme for this year’s observance is “Celebrating 111 Years of Excellence through Supreme Service”.
Judge JaDawnya C. Baker was appointed to Atlanta Municipal Courts in 2015 making her the youngest judge at the time of her appointment. She is a graduate of Spelman College where she graduated with honors and received her Juris Doctorate from the University of Florida, Levin College of Law. She was honored by the National Bar Association as one of the “Nation’s Next Advocates: 40 Lawyers under 40”. Along with many professional and civic recognitions, she has served as a guest legal analyst on HLN for “On the Case”, “Evening Express” and “HLN After Dark.” Judge Baker was appointed to the State Bar of Georgia’s Board of Governors in 2013 and has since been elected twice to continue her service.
Musical guests are The Gamma Sigma Omega Chorale and featured performer, electric violinist, JaVonne Jones. Ms. Jones, a graduate of Alabama A & M University with a Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Music Education, specializes in classical, gospel, R&B, neosoul and Hip-Hop.
