From Disney To Des Moines Silver Cheetahs Earn Gold


It’s been a busy summer of competition for Silver Cheetah athletes. On July 5th and 6th, Cheetah athletes competed at the 2014 AAU Primary Championship in Disney’s ESPN Wide World of Sports. Faith Washington placed 7th, earning a copper medal in the 8 & Under Girls Turbo Javelin. Na’Seir Samuel earned a gold medal in the 8 & Under Boys 100 m with a time of 14.17 and a gold medal in the 8 & Under Boys Triathlon with 300 points in the Long Jump, Shot Put and 200 m. Na’Seir also earned a silver medal in the 8 & Under Long Jump with a jump of 13-05.50. Older Silver Cheetahs competed at the 2014 AAU Disney Club Championships held July 7th – July 13th. Taylor Deloach earned a silver medal in the 17-18 Women’s Long Jump with a jump of 19-10. She also earned a copper medal by placing 8th in the 17-18 Women’s 100 m dash. Jalen Deloach earned two copper medals, placing 4th in the 12 Boys Long Jump with a jump of 16-07.75 and 5th in the 12 Boys 80 m hurdles with a time of 12.82. Jeremy Smith earned a copper medal, placing 5th in the 14 Boys High Jump with a jump of 5-06. Kalen Deloach earned three medals: a gold medal in the 14 Boys Javelin Throw with a throw of 124-00; a silver medal in the 14 Boys Shot Put with a throw of 40-03.75; and a copper medal with a 7th place finish in the 14 Boys Discus with a throw of 105- 05. Kion Hayes earned a gold medal in the 10 Boys Long Jump with a jump of 14-10.25.

The goal of every Silver Cheetah athlete is to compete during the annual AAU Junior Olympic Games. This year approximately 5000 athletes competed at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, July 26th – August 2nd. Taylor Deloach earned a Gold medal in the 17-18 Women’s Long Jump with a jump of 19-01.75. She also earned a copper medal, placing 8th in the 17-18 Women’s 200 m with a time of 25.03. Jalen Deloach earned a copper medal, placing 7th in the 12 Boys Long Jump with a jump of 17-01. Kion Hayes earned a Bronze medal in the 10 Boys Long Jump with a jump of 14-07.25. Na’Seir Samuel earned two gold medals: one in the 8 & Under 100 m with a time of 13.87 and another in the 8 & Under Long Jump with a jump of 12-10.25. Zhane Roberts earned a copper medal with a 6th place finish in the 17-18 Men’s Javelin.

The goal of the Savannah-Chatham Silver Cheetahs is to mentor youth through the sport of athletics, and to groom them into champion athletes.
