Malik Franklin of the Savannah State University track and field team finished fifth in the triple jump with a jump of 15.02 meters (49-3.5) at the Penn Relays in the final day of the event Saturday., April 30, 2016.
Savannah State University’s 4×400-meter relay team finished second in heat four and 17th overall Friday with a time of 3:14.54 to qualify for the final round Saturday. The team of Morgan Ellis-Foster, Kevin Todd Woodring, Brandon Davis and Nigel Brown finished seventh in the final round with a time of 3:15.62.
Friday results include, the Savannah State 4×200-meter relay team of Brown, Justin Leggett, Woodring and Ellis-Foster finished fifth in heat five and 10th overall with a time of 1:27.72, while the 4×100-meter relay team of Franklin, Leggett, Woodring and Brown finished fourth in heat five and 34th overall with a time of 42.07.
Davis finished 34th in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 56.58, followed by Ellis-Foster’s 37th place finish with a time of 56.87, while Franklin finished 30th in the long jump with a jump of 6.33 meters (20-9.25).
The men’s and women’s track and field teams start postseason with the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Championship that starts on Thursday and finishes on Saturday, May 7.
