The Spirit of Excellence Black Business Awards will hold its 6th annual gala ceremony at the Marriott Riverfront on October 18th, 2008 at 6:30 p.m. Some of Savannah’s most outstanding businesses and individuals have been nominated. Among the nominees are: Pamela Scott, owner of Abbey’s Convenience Store; Joe Addison, owner of Joe Addison Motors; Michael O’Neal, founder of Parent University; Wardell Holmes, Sr., owner of Holmes Barber Shop; Vernel Oliver, owner of Oliver’s Barber Shop; Darryl Hansley, owner of A Brighter Day Bail Bond; Richmond Fergerson, owner of Eco Building Concepts, Inc.; J. Michaels, owner of The JMG Media Group; Pastor Gregg Tyson, owner of Boys to Men Barber Shop; Leroy Scott, owner of L&P Enterprises; Cynthia L. Cornish, owner of MaRandy’s Soulfood & Seafood Restaurant; Pamela Howard-Oglesby, owner of West Savannah Community Organization; Alethea Frazier-Raynor, Ph.D, cofounder of African American Male Achievement; Jasmine Solomon and Terry Wright, owners of Peachtree Medical Equipment; Fred Nunn, owner of Epiphany Hair Studio; and Reverend Thurmond M. Tillman, Pastor of First African Baptist Church.

Keynote speaker is Gerry McCants, producer of Black Expo and publisher of Black Pages USA. Featured performers are One Spirit Dance Ministry, Lillian Baptiste and Esther Simmons.
