Festival of Trees and Wishes in Savannah



The Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Georgia and Alabama hosting its 2nd Annual Festival of Trees and Wishes to raise awareness about the Foundation and its significant accomplishments in the Greater Savannah area.

Featuring trees and wreaths decorated for the holidays by local businesses, civic organizations, individuals, and schools, the festival is open to the public free of charge from Nov. 20 through Dec. 12, 2008. The trees will be displayed in the lobby areas of the DeSoto Savannah Hilton Hotel located at 15 East Liberty Street, Savannah, Ga.

A Gala reception and auction kicked-off the festival on Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008, at 7 p.m. Guests enjoyed a presentation by the parents of a Savannah Wish Child as they share the story of her journey and the impact the Make-A-Wish Foundation has had on their lives.

On Saturday, Dec.6, 2008, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Santa Claus will make an appearance in the Harborview Room of the DeSoto Savannah Hilton during a special children’s event called “Cookies with Santa.” During the event, children will enjoy cookies and punch while listening to Santa read Christmas stories. Children may also have their pictures taken with Santa. The event is offered at no charge. Advance reservations are required.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation® grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy. The Foundation is the largest wish-granting charity in the world, with 67 chapters in the U.S. and its territories, granting more than 12,600 wishes a year. In its 14th year, the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Georgia and Alabama operates on a budget of over $4 million with 79 percent of all funds used for granting wishes to children.
