On January 11 2010, at 11:00 a.m., the Emancipation Association of Savannah, Georgia and Vicinity, Inc. will hold its 147th Celebration of the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation by President Abraham Lincoln.
The event will be held at Second African Baptist Church, 123 Houston Street, Savannah. The Rev. C. MeGill Brown is the host pastor. The speaker for the occasion will be the Rev. Dr. John Frank Green, President of Turner Theological Seminary of the Interdenominational Center in Atlanta.
Under the visionary leadership of the president of the Emancipation Association, Rev. George A. Moore, Jr., pastor of historic St. Philip Monumental AME Church, the year 2010 has been designated, “The Year of the African American Male.”
Members of the Youth Division of the Association, including essayists who wrote on the subject, “The Emancipation Proclamation: Then and Nov.-,” will be an integral part of the service.
The public is cordially invited to join in this first Emancipation Celebration with an African American as a sitting President of the United States of America Rev. Matthew Southall Brown is Chairman I Program Committee, and Presiding Elder J.E. Taylor is Co-Chairman and Coordinator of the Youth Division.
