Looking for a summer program filled with fun and learning? The Earl T. Shinhoster Youth Leadership Institute could be the one. The Institute is accepting applications for its July 8-12, 2019 program. It will be held at the Ralph Mark Gilbert Civil Rights Museum, 460 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Cultural awareness and financial literacy will be the themes this year, as youth explore the rich history of the Gullah Geechee culture in Georgia. They also will gain exposure to sound financial management tools and entrepreneurship. Youth will enjoy a fast-paced, interactive, and creative week.
The Youth Leadership Institute is designed to develop leaders who have skills to positively influence and impact themselves, their peers and their communities. The one-week experience prepares youth, ages 12-17, to be change agents in their schools, communities and the world.
During the week, youth will be exposed to small group facilitation, leadership skills, team building, communication skills – written and verbal, civic responsibility, volunteerism, financial literacy, cultural awareness, and entrepreneurship. They will also go on cultural tours.
The Youth Leadership Institute fee is $100.00 and includes lunch, supplies, T-shirts and transportation to cultural sites.
