Dr. Terriyln Rivers-Cannon Receives Social Worker of The Year Award

The National Association of Social Workers (NASW) will present Savannah native Dr. Terriyln Rivers-Cannon with Georgia’s Social Worker of the Year Award for 2013. This will take place during the Social Work Awards Luncheon for the NASW Georgia National Conference. This award is given to an individual who has demonstrated exceptional professional qualities that make her or him stand out beyond the expectations of her/his job.

Dr. Rivers-Cannon met minimum qualifications by: Being a member in good standing with NASW-GA, demonstrating leadership qualities of an exceptional nature, effectively integrating experience with education in an outstanding effort to help people, showing a willingness to take risks for improved social services, enlisting public support for improved social service, contributing to the public’s knowledge of social work, and representing the professional ethics of social work as defined in the NASW Code of Ethics.

For 20 plus years, Dr. Rivers-Cannon has demonstrated her care and dedication to the field of social work and commitment to the families that she services through her work with public and educational organizations. She takes pride in her career and is active on the local, state and national level of social work. Dr. Terriyln Rivers-Cannon holds a Master of Social Work and Doctorate of Educational Leadership. She is currently the PTSA (Parent Teacher Student Association) District

11 Membership Chair and previously ran for the 2012 DeKalb Co. District 6 School Board seat. She is dedicated to working with the community to foster an environment of high excellence in our schools.
