It is with great pride and excitement that the Chicago Defender newspaper present 8th annual Women of Excellence Awards! The Women of Excellence 2014 will be celebrated on April 16th in the Chicago Defender newspaper and April 17th at the Fairmont Hotel, Chicago. Among the Honorees will be Dr. Stacy L. Henderson. The proud Savannah native is a 1989 Graduate of A. E. Beach High School, a Savannah State Alumna, a Photo Credit: member of the Frank Callen Worsom Robinson Boys & Girls Club Alumni Association and a lifelong member of Little Bryan Baptist Church, Pastored by Marvin and First Lady Jerry Lloyd. Stacy is the proud of mother of two children: KeiSha and William.
The Chicago Defender throughout its 107 year legacy has encouraged and empowered African American women to aim for the improbable and attain the impossible. With that as the premise, the Chicago Defender will profile and honor 50 Women of Excellence at its 8th annual celebration. The Chicago Defender has acknowledged and celebrated the courage, resilience, determination, expertise, achievement, and dedication of more than 400 women such as Carol Mosley-Braun, former Senator and Ambassador; Patricia Andrews-Kennan, Corporate Communications Executive; Margaret Garner, the first African American woman/ contractor to build a Wal-Mart; Emma Mitts, Alderman of the 37th Ward who had a vision for a better life for her West Side constituents; Peggy Sutton of Mayfair Academy which has provided cultural dance education and instruction on the south side of Chicago for over 50 years; Merri Dee, legendary media maven; and Michelle Obama for her contributions in health care and medicine at the University of Chicago Hospital.
Dr. Henderson is a retired Naval Officer and is an active member of various veteran and community organizations, including the National Women Veterans United; Coalition of Veterans Organizations; and Montford Point Marine Association, Inc.–where she is the reigning MPMA National Queen, 2013-14. The CEO of Dr. Stacy L. Henderson & Associates Coaching and Consulting, LLC, she will be recognized for her service to the veteran and civilian communities that she serves.
As such, in keeping with the Chicago Defender’s legacy, the institution will again honor 50 Women of Excellence. Each will be featured in a special edition of the Chicago Defender on April 16th and each will also be recognized for their outstanding achievement during a special Awards Luncheon and Reception on April 17th. One individual will be named Woman of the Year.
